So maybe you have finally picked out the house you want, you have gotten approved for a loan, went through an open house, made an offer, and closed the deal. The house is finally yours, but now you wonder what to do first and suddenly you feel overwhelmed as the list begins to grow in your head. This may be especially true if you are a first time buyer. Here are some tips of things to buy and do after closing on your new home. They will help to make the process a little easier so you can get settled in and begin to enjoy your new home and future.

Ask your real estate agent for advice
You may be saying, why do this, we already bought a house? Well, your agent is very experienced about selling and buying new homes and what it takes to move in and out of a home, so they would actually be a good resource to ask before actually closing, especially for first time buyers.

Get new keys and Locks
This is important because the previous seller’s friends, family or coworkers may still all have keys to your new home. This is for your safety, security and peace of mind.

Lawn Supplies
Unless you already have a lawn service set up, it’s a good idea to buy lawn supplies such as a lawnmower, weed eater and more. This is especially important if it is the spring or summer already. You want the outside of your home to look good too.

Tools and Repair Items
If you do not already own them, it is a good idea to buy some basic tools and repair supplies. Some of these items may include:  hammers, wrenches, tape measure, screw drivers and more. You never know when you may need them and it is best to be prepared.

Snow Removal Supplies
You do not want to wait until winter to buy these items because you might get stuck and then not be able to get them until later. These items include: shovels, plows, snow melt or salt, coverings for the patio or deck, and more.

With these tips about what to buy after closing on your new home you should be well prepared and be able to enjoy your new home with fewer worries and the weather or security issues. These tips will help you to get a good start in your new home and new future.
